By using Hay & Hutch you agree to these terms. They are short, and the two parts that actually matter are the sections on what this guidance is not and on specification accuracy.

What this site is

Hay & Hutch publishes housing guidance for small pets, built on welfare figures published by third-party organizations and on manufacturers' published product specifications. It is a publication rather than a retailer: we sell nothing, we hold no stock, and we are not party to any transaction you make with a retailer we link to.

What this site is not

This is not veterinary advice. Nobody writing for this site is a veterinarian, no page here has been reviewed by one, and nothing on the site should be used in place of professional veterinary care. If an animal is unwell, injured, or behaving in a way that worries you, consult a vet rather than a website.

Our guidance concerns enclosures: floor area, bar spacing, materials, bedding depth and placement. It does not cover diagnosis, treatment, medication or diet for an individual animal.

Specifications and figures

Product dimensions, bar spacing and materials on this site are recorded from each manufacturer's or retailer's own published listing, on the date stated on the page. Manufacturers do revise specifications between production runs and retailers do make errors, so check the current listing before you buy, particularly where a figure sits close to a threshold.

Welfare thresholds are quoted from the organizations that published them, with a link and a date. Those organizations may revise their guidance, and where we learn of a revision we update the affected pages. The authoritative version of any figure is the issuing body's own current publication rather than our record of it.

Where a figure is our own rather than a published one, it is labeled as ours on the page. Our assessments and scores are editorial opinion based on published specifications, not test results. How we assess products sets out the method in full.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site earn us a commission, as set out in our affiliate disclosure. Your purchase is a contract between you and the retailer. Returns, warranties, delivery and disputes are matters for that retailer, and we have no ability to intervene in them.

Limitation of liability

The content here is provided as-is. We take care to be accurate and we correct errors when we find them or when they are reported, but we do not warrant that every figure is free of error at every moment. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from reliance on the content of this site, from a product you bought after reading it, or from the site being unavailable.

Nothing in these terms limits liability where it cannot lawfully be limited.

Using our content

• You may quote a short passage with attribution and a link to the page it came from.
• You may link to any page here, without asking.
• You may not republish a page or a substantial part of one, in whole or in translation, without written permission.
• You may not scrape the site to build a derivative product. Our robots file sets out what automated access we permit; AI crawlers that identify themselves are allowed to read the site, which is not the same as permission to republish it.
• Copyright in the text on this site belongs to Magoo Media Group. Photographs are licensed stock and remain the property of their respective photographers.

Third-party links

We link to welfare organizations, veterinary sources, manufacturers and retailers. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their policies. A citation is a statement about where a figure came from, not an endorsement of everything else on that site.

Changes

We may revise these terms. When we do, the update date at the top of this page changes. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
